New Land Folio

Ruminating on the images of Mars sent to Earth from the Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, "New Land" is a folio of 4 prints, 15” x 20”, on Somerset, that examines the human motivation for space travel and exploration. Initiated in 2005 at the advent of the 21st century, New Land was completed in story-board fashion in 2018.

The folio has eight sheets including a cover, a two-page essay “There” by Ross handset in 14 point Plantin on Mohawk, and a colophon.

“Home”, an offset lithograph collé derived from a drawing made in 1967 when Ross returned to Auburn University from The University of Kansas at Lawrence is printed on Gampi Silk Tissue. That drawing is in the collection of The LaGrange Art Museum in LaGrange Georgia.

The work is a combination of lithography, silkscreen, relief, intaglio, collagraphy, sand, digital images and chine collé.
